The LEITWIND control system automatically monitors performance and uses variable rpm´s and harmonious pitch control to optimize production in the partial and full load ranges. The mechanical brake of the yaw system consists of a hydraulic driven part and an electric driven brake in every single yaw motor. The electric driven brakes open only during yaw maneuvers. The hydraulic driven part consists of a main control component and seven brakes. During the yaw maneuver the brake torque is reduced to 25% of nominal torque, otherwise 100% are applied.
The pitch system of the turbine consists of three independent electric drivers. This pitch system regulates the rotor speed and keeps the power constant above the rated wind speed. Furthermore the pitch system an brake the rotor aerodynamically by moving the blades to the feather position. Each of the three pitch motors is backed up by batteries to ensure a safe braking manoeuvre even in case of a grid loss.
The winddirection is measured higher than the machine carrier with an ultrasonic anemometer continuously. If there is a deviation between winddirection and orientation of the plant the position will be corrected by up to four yaw motors.
