Salzstiegl

Installation in alpinem terrain on 1,700 m

The installation of the two wind turbines in the ski area Salzstiegl was the first project of LEITWIND in Austria. The gearless wind turbine of the type LTW77 1.35 MW was installed in 2007. Since then, Salzstiegl is named as the first green ski area in Austria. Due to the positive experience the owner Friedl Kaltenegger made with the LEITWIND technology he contracted the company again for the erection of a second unit. The second wind turbine, a LTW80 with a nominal power of 1.5 MW war installed in 2011. During the installation of the two gearless wind turbines the LEITWIND team has to face a few challenges in the area of transportation and assembling. The site is located on 1,700 m,  hence the transport of the huge components was not that easy, but our experienced team solved the problems immediately. A further special solution was the developed because of the cold temperatures: in order to prevent the rotor blades from icing, a special ice sensor system was installed.
